Writing 324 Short Story Writing
In WR 324 students will further develop their understanding of the elements of narrative (plot, point of view, characterization, setting, tone, metaphor, subtext, etc.) both as writer and reader; engage in a range of writing exercises and assignments to develop authentic voice and material for their own short fiction; become more sophisticated readers of both peers¹ stories, and the stories of contemporary authors; and hone critical skills, both written and oral.
Requirements include three short writing assignments, a short story, analyses of two readings, regular quizzes on the readings, and a group presentation. Students will also participate in small group workshops, and write reviews of their peers¹ stories. The instructor will meet with each student for a conference at least once during the term.
